Northwest Norfolk History Society

Jeffrey Bonas - Chairman of the Northwest North History SocietyJeffrey Bonas’ close links with Oriel College and infinite fascination with modern history have led him to establish The North West Norfolk History Society.

The North West Norfolk History Society is currently sponsoring graduate research at Oxford, and it is hoped that the inaugural lecture, and the ones to follow, will raise awareness and encourage generosity in helping to fund this important research work. It currently costs £15,000 a year to sponsor a graduate through a three year research project.

Jeffrey Bonas, as Chairman of The North West Norfolk History Society hosted the annual lecture at Holkham Hall in July 2012, by kind permission of Lord Coke, when Jessica Douglas Home spoke on "A Glimpse of Empire."

Dr James Howard-Johnston MA, is a renowned English historian of the Byzantine Empire. He is University Lecturer in Byzantine Studies at the University of Oxford and is an emeritus fellow of Corpus Christi College, Oxford.

Dr Howard-Johnston has done much research on Late Antiquity, especially the Roman-Persian Wars and the Coming of Islam.

Dr Howard-Johnston delivered this lecture to an audience of just 100 guests at Holkham Hall, on 20 July 2011, by kind permission of Viscount & Viscountess Coke.
